When The Cat Is Away

Separation is an inevitable part of military life. At some point in the span of a year, you will find yourself alone. It may be deployment, training, a quick overnight duty if you're lucky. I like to call them business trips

It makes it less annoying.

When the military requires the Marine to leave, the schedule changes. I'm not good at "carrying on". I drop the ball on routine. I quickly divert to not cooking... or cleaning... or being a responsible adult in general. I'm the head-in-the-sand girl. Or we could call it fun mom.

Kids are usually in bed by 9pm when the Marine is here. The very day he leaves...we are pushing midnight without blinking an eye. Fun mom calls it a sleepover.

Totally justified when it's a sleepover, right?!?

  1. Oooh girl, you are brave, with kiddos awake until Midnight! Then again, they aren't teeny tiny anymore. My kiddos never seem to sleep in, no matter how late they stay up. Midnight in our house will NEVER happen, if I want to stay sane, anyways!

  2. That's totally how I am! I can't call it a "business trip" though because it annoys me when my civilian counterparts complain about their spouse's business trips...lol.

  3. I know exactly what you mean! Kyle leaves in a few weeks for 2 months and I know I will revert to not cooking nor caring what I look like haha.

  5. I'm the same way when my husband works crazy shifts, it's like "Well, a chocolate doughnut is the perfect dinner for tonight".

That and a glass of wine!

  6. Oh the joys of a deployment. I always say we have 2 routines, one when dad's home and one when dad's gone! A mom has to do what she needs to do to survive a deployment, you do exactly what you need to do and don't feel bad about it. ;-)
